UN concerned by renewed airstrikes in Yemen

1 min read

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon yesterday voiced his organisation’s concern over the resumption of airstrikes in Yemen by a Saudi-led coalition.

“When I read the report that fighting was resumed I was very much concerned about that,” he said in a statement, adding: “I sincerely hope there will be an end of fighting as soon as possible.”

Saudi Arabia announced Tuesday that it had ended its month- long military offensive against Houthi rebels in Yemen, but resumed operations yesterday.

The UN called last week for an urgent ceasefire by all parties in Yemen.
